I fix my wedding gown in front of the mirror and take a deep
breath.
This is it. The big day.
I wish my parents and my brother are alive to see me married
off to Charles.
I feel sad that my dad won't be able to escort me to the
altar and hand me over to the groom.
Some of the staff is here helping me with my gown.
My palms are sweaty and I'm nervous, but at the same time,
I'm excited.
I trace the permanent ink on my arm. Kai Benedict. That
sounds pretty cool.
The door opens and Charles slips in.
“Charles! You shouldn't be here!” I say.
“She's right,” one of the staff says. “It's bad luck for the
groom to see the bride before the wedding.”
Charles ignores her and march up to me. He cleans up nicely.
He's wearing a black, tuxedo suit that tailored just for him.
He looks so good and I'm tempted to undress him straight
away.
“There's no such thing as bad luck,” Charles says. “Not when
I'm about to marry my bride.”
“Are you that worried I might run away?”
“N-no,” he says hesitantly.
My jaw ticks. We need to work on that trust issues.
“Your name is on my skin. How insecure can you get?”
“I'm not being insecure,” he says defensively. “I just want
to take you to the altar by myself.”
“The groom is supposed to wait for the bride, not escort her
yourself.”
“My wedding. My rules. Fuck tradition.”
I laugh. “Fine. Our wedding. Our rules.” I turn to one of
the waiting staff.
“Can you tell the pianist to stop playing that horrible
wedding march song? Tell her to play Fly Me To The Moon when we go down the
altar.”
“Fly Me To The Moon?” Charles grins as I take his elbow and
we walk outside.
I hum. “It's our song.”
